FLD 2008- General Information

FOREIGN LANGUAGE DAY 2008

The faculty and staff of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures enthusiastically invite senior high school Foreign Language teachers and students to the 36th annual Foreign Language Day at the SIUC Student Center on Thursday, April 10th.

FLD activities include the following: Welcome Ceremony, 9:45-10:00; Scholar Bowl (SB), 10:10-12:30; Cultural Presentations, 10:10-12:00; give- away of books, newspapers, and magazines; write your name in Japanese, Chinese and Korean, Candy Contest and much more.

A charge of $2.00 per student is assessed to defray the FLD expenses. Please send a check, made payable to "SIUC" by "snail mail". Address: FLD, Mailcode 4507, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL 62901-4507.

Registration and checks for groups that do not include Scholar Bowl teams must be received by March 30th.


SCHOLAR BOWL TEAMS

Scholar Bowl teams must pre-register ON-LINE by March 1st. You do not need to send payment to pre-register your Scholar Bowl teams.

Please pre-register your teams ASAP so that we will have plenty of time to set up the match pairings.

Confirmations will be sent out within 24 hours of registration or you may email to request a confirmation.

Scholar Bowl. Single elimination competition in Division A and Division B will be offered in French, German, Latin, and Spanish. Only students enrolled in lst- or 2nd-year Foreign Language classes may compete in Division A. Students enrolled in FL classes at any level may compete in Division B. Each school may enter one team in Division A and one in Division B in each language. Native and heritage speakers of Spanish, German or French are not eligible to compete.

The questions asked in Scholar Bowl competition generally relate to grammar, vocabulary, history, geography and culture. Click here for more Scholar Bowl information.

A schedule of presentations and Scholar Bowl pairings will be available on this Web page as soon as the schedule is completed. We hope to see you and your students in Carbondale on Thursday, April 10th.
